Fun in the Foothills tourism marketing project launched August 7, 2008 Okotoks, Alberta

Olde Towne Okotoks, the Town of Okotoks, the Diamond Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Cowboy Trail
have partnered with Travel Alberta to increase tourist visits to the Foothills Region.
They have created a tourism marketing brochure entitled "Come Explore Alberta's Majestic Foothills"
aimed at attracting day travellers from Calgary to the communities of Okotoks, Black Diamond,
Millarville, Longview, Okotoks and Turner Valley.

The main objective of the project is to promote the area as an appealing and convenient destination
choice for Calgarians who are interested in exploring outside the city boundaries and are open
to experiencing rural cultural and recreational activities. With fewer long-haul trips
anticipated in 2008 resulting from higher fuel costs and a strong Canadian dollar,
Albertans are staying closer to home.

The full colour brochure features high impact photos and messaging based on four predominant themes -
  1. unique shopping, dining and accommodation
  2. attractions and events
  3. outdoor recreation, sightseeing and eco-tourism
  4. arts and culture.
A total of 100,000 copies will be printed. Eighty thousand will be distributed through
the Calgary Herald with the balance available through the partner organizations and their members.
Full funding in the amount of $ 15,000 was received from Travel Alberta's
Destination Awareness Program, administered by the Calgary and Area Tourism Destination Region, covering 100% of the project costs.

The idea originated from a member of the Olde Towne Okotoks Merchants' Group who had seen a similar
initiative undertaken in Bragg Creek. Shane Olson, Economic Development Team Leader with the Town of
Okotoks coordinated the project with assistance from Community Futures Highwood. Mr. Olson stated
"The Town of Okotoks and Olde Towne Okotoks are pleased to be working with the Diamond Valley
Chamber of Commerce and the Cowboy Trail on this initiative. It is a great example of communities
and organizations working together to expand limited marketing budgets and create greater
economic impact in the region".

The marketing message will funnel readers toward the partner websites, Olde Towne Okotoks,
(oldetownokotoks.ca) and the Diamond Valley Chamber of Commerce, (diamondvalleychamber.com) to
provide specific event and activity information. Those preferring to call will be directed to the
Okotoks Visitor Information Centre. Tied into the campaign is a contest to experience "Fun in the
Foothills" which will feature a wide variety of prizes from local businesses, offering winners
an opportunity to sample Foothills products and services. Prizes valued at more than $ 2,000 range
from mountain horseback rides and golf to shopping and dining gift certificates. The contest will
encourage increased visitation to the region and serve as a method of tracking inquiries and gauging interest.

John Kirinic, President of the Diamond Valley Chamber of Commerce noted "There is so much in the
region to offer tourists; magnificent natural beauty, lots of recreation, great shopping and dining
and plenty of fun and exciting events. This project provides an effective and affordable venue to
promote our communities and businesses. We are delighted to be able to participate in this project"
